Overview

Understanding asbestos — and why testing is the only reliable answer.

Asbestos was used in building materials for decades because of its fire resistance and durability. Today we know that asbestos fibers pose serious health risks when disturbed and inhaled — and the materials that contain them aren't always obvious. Insulation, flooring, ceiling systems, pipe coverings, and adhesives can all hide it.

Because asbestos cannot be identified by sight alone, professional testing is the only reliable way to confirm its presence and determine whether management, monitoring, or abatement is required. This matters most before renovation or demolition work, during property transactions, and when maintaining older residential and commercial buildings.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Questions we hear most often. Don't see yours? Reach out and we'll answer.

When do I need an asbestos inspection?+

Before any renovation or demolition of a building constructed before the 1980s, during property transactions on older buildings, after suspected disturbance of building materials, and when maintaining institutional or commercial facilities subject to compliance requirements.

What materials commonly contain asbestos?+

Insulation, vinyl floor tiles and mastic, popcorn / acoustic ceilings, pipe coverings, joint compound, roofing materials, and certain adhesives. Visual identification is not reliable — only lab testing can confirm.

How long does asbestos testing take?+

On-site sampling typically takes 1–3 hours depending on building size and material count. Standard lab turnaround is 3–5 business days; rush analysis is available when timing is critical.

Do you perform asbestos removal?+

We provide inspection, testing, and compliance services — not abatement. Keeping testing independent ensures unbiased findings. We can refer licensed abatement contractors when removal is required.

What does the lab report tell me?+

Each sample is identified by asbestos type (chrysotile, amosite, crocidolite) and percentage content. Our written report adds material classification and recommended management actions.

Is asbestos testing required by law?+

Federal, state, and local regulations require asbestos surveys before many renovation and demolition projects, and certain property transactions trigger disclosure requirements. We document everything to support compliance.
