Mold Air Testing
Even when mold isn't visible, abnormal spore counts can affect your health. Our calibrated air sampling tells you exactly what's in the air you breathe.

Our certified and experienced technicians at HBH - Healthy Buildings & Homes help homeowners and businesses across Long Island and NYC safely identify airborne mold using best-in-class protocols. Mold spores are a normal component of household and workplace dust, but abnormally elevated levels are a health hazard and a clear sign that an active source exists somewhere in the building.
If you're experiencing unexplained allergy-like symptoms, persistent musty odors, or you've had recent water intrusion, mold air testing gives you objective data — not a guess.

What's included
We follow established indoor environmental sampling protocols so the data we deliver is defensible — for insurance claims, real-estate transactions, or your own peace of mind.
Ambient outdoor air is sampled first as a control — without it, indoor results can't be properly interpreted.
Targeted samples in suspect rooms (basements, baths, HVAC supply, sleeping areas).
Volumetric spore-trap cassettes draw a precise air volume — no passive guessing.
Samples processed by an AIHA-accredited microbiology lab with full genus identification.
Your results are interpreted by a Certified Indoor Environmentalist, not just printed lab data.
If anything is elevated, we recommend an inspection or remediation plan — no upsell pressure.
Our Process
A quick call or message confirms the scope — number of rooms, square footage, and any specific concerns or symptoms.
Calibrated spore-trap samples are drawn from each target area plus an outdoor baseline. Typically 60–90 minutes on site.
Your written report includes per-room spore counts, genus identification, and a CIE-authored interpretation with recommended next steps.
FAQ
Questions we hear most often. Don't see yours? Reach out and we'll answer.
A calibrated pump draws a known volume of air through a spore-trap cassette over a fixed time. The cassette is sealed and sent to an accredited lab where spores are counted and identified under a microscope.
Outdoor mold spores are normal and ever-present. The only way to know whether your indoor levels are abnormal is to compare them against an outdoor control taken at the same time.
Typically one outdoor baseline plus one per suspect area. Most single-family homes need 2–4 indoor samples; larger or symptom-driven assessments may need more.
Genus identification (Aspergillus, Penicillium, Stachybotrys, etc.), spore counts per cubic meter, and a comparison against outdoor and reference levels — interpreted by a CIE so you know exactly what action, if any, is warranted.
Lab turnaround is typically 3–5 business days. Same-day rush analysis is available for an additional lab fee when timing is critical.
Air testing is excellent for screening but doesn't replace a visual inspection when an active leak, visible growth, or specific structural concern exists. We'll tell you which approach fits your situation.
